Bespoke framing from an artist’s studio in Lewes
I offer a careful, bespoke framing service from my studio in the Needlemakers, Lewes, working with photographs, prints, paintings, drawings, textiles, objects and more unusual pieces that need a considered approach.
As an artist myself, I see framing as more than a finishing process. It is the point where a work is held, protected and given the space it needs to be properly seen. A good frame should never overwhelm the piece. It should support it quietly — through proportion, material, depth, colour and finish.
Each frame is made around the work itself. Sometimes that means a simple hardwood frame and conservation mount. Sometimes it means a floating mount, a deeper box frame, specialist glazing, or a more complex structure for fragile, dimensional or irregular pieces.
Because I make, print and exhibit work myself, I understand how personal these decisions can be. Framing is practical, but it is also about care: respecting the artwork, the person who made it, and the place it will live.
❋ What I frame
I frame a wide range of work, including photographs, editioned prints, paintings, drawings, works on paper, textiles, family photographs, keepsakes, children’s artwork, found objects, fragile pieces and artworks for exhibitions, homes and interiors.
❋ Materials & finish
I work with carefully chosen materials, including hardwood mouldings, conservation mountboard, spacers, floating mounts, box frames and specialist glazing.
Where needed, I can advise on UV protective glass, anti-reflective glass, deeper frames, object supports and other options to help preserve and present the work properly.
The aim is always the same: to make something that feels quietly right for the piece.
❋ Consultation
Framing is by appointment at my studio in The Old Needlemakers, Lewes.
You are welcome to bring the work in, or send images and approximate dimensions beforehand. I can then talk through suitable options, materials, timescales and pricing.
